The most notable people from Kensett are George Dickey who was a catcher for Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox and Georgia Holt who is the famous singer Cher's mother. The town has one Mexican restaurant , Los Toscanes which is a favorite spot for both residents and visitors to eat and hang out.
About Kensett Animal Shelter
Kensett Animal Shelter is an outdoor shelter with limited funds, situated next to waste and sewage plant. The shelter lacks a formal street address and many Kensett residents as well as those in the surrounding areas are unaware of its existence. Despite efforts to establish an address, these efforts have been unsuccessful. The shelter is currently unlisted on Google. The shelter has 15 kennels and the city requires 3 of these remain free at all times. Dogs are scheduled to be euthanized 5 days after intake.
Due to limited funds, volunteers and foster homes, the dogs have few opportunities to leave their kennels unless volunteers visit to let them out and help at the shelter , which is typically once a week. The kennels are cleaned as time permits either by the ACO or the volunteers, solely with water using pressure washer. The city's budget in 2024 for the shelter is $16,740 which needs to cover the cost of preventatives, wormers, vaccinations, spay/neuter procedures, food and miscellaneous supplies to keep the dogs fed and healthy throughout the year including the hot and humid summers and cold frigid winters.

Volunteering opportunties are available both in-person and remotely! If you're local, you can take the dogs for walks, capture photos and videos, help clean kennels, feed the dogs, assist with routine maintenance maintenance tasks. Remote volunteers can support by managing the dog's profiles, tracking adoption applications and helping with other administrative tasks.
